Flooring Estimating Software for Flooring Installers
Flooring bids come down to square footage, waste, prep and transitions. Trades HQ turns your measurements into estimate lines and keeps the job priced right from the first box to the last threshold.
Waste depends on the layout. A straight lay wastes less than a diagonal or herringbone pattern.
Prep is its own job. Removing old flooring, leveling and moisture barriers can take as long as the install.
Transitions and trim. Thresholds, stair nosing, quarter round and baseboard add up across a whole house.
Material comes by the box. You can't buy part of a box, so the count needs rounding up.
How Trades HQ helps flooring installers
Ready-made flooring template. Start from an LVP install template with flooring, underlayment and labor lines.
Quick Measure for flooring. Enter room sizes, and it turns floor area plus waste into estimate lines.
Measure from blueprints. Measure floor areas right off a blueprint PDF.
Labor-rate guidance by state. See typical floor layer wages in your state, then set your own rate.
Price book. Keep your own material prices and reuse them on every bid.
Change orders when the customer adds a room, then one click to invoice.
A flooring estimate, step by step
Measure each room's floor area (length × width).
Add a waste factor: about 10% for a straight lay is common, more for diagonal or patterned layouts.
Divide by the square feet per box (it's printed on the box) and round up.
Add underlayment, transitions, trim and adhesive.
Add prep: removal, leveling and haul-away.
Apply your overhead and profit.
Example (illustrative): a 12 × 14 ft room, straight lay.
Step
Math
Result
Floor area
12 × 14
168 sq ft
Plus 10% waste
168 × 1.10
184.8 sq ft
Boxes at 20 sq ft each
184.8 ÷ 20
9.24, so 10 boxes
Pricing tip: Put removal and leveling on their own lines so the customer sees what prep costs. And remember that markup and margin aren't the same number: a 20% margin needs a 25% markup. The Estimating Basics guide walks through the math, and the free markup and margin calculator does it for you.

How much extra flooring should I order for waste?
