Drywall Estimating Software for Drywall Contractors
Drywall bids come down to sheets, finish level and labor. Trades HQ helps you count it right, price it with your own rates, and track whether the job made money.
Sheet counts and waste. Openings, offcuts and odd wall heights change how many sheets you really need.
Finish level. A Level 5 finish takes far more time and material than Level 3.
Ceilings and heights. Ceilings, stairwells and tall walls slow hanging and finishing.
Hang vs. finish. Hanging and finishing are different labor, and they often go to different crews.
How Trades HQ helps drywall contractors
Ready-made drywall template. Start from a hang-and-finish template with the sheets, compound and other lines a drywall bid usually needs.
Quick Measure for drywall. Enter wall and ceiling sizes, and Quick Measure adds the measurements to your estimate.
Measure from blueprints. Measure walls and ceilings right off a blueprint PDF.
Labor-rate guidance by state. See typical drywall installer wages in your state, then set your own rate.
Bid work out to other subs. Send one request for quotes, for example to a finisher, and their bids come back through a simple form.
Live job profit as labor and materials come in.
A drywall estimate, step by step
Measure wall area (perimeter × height), subtract doors and windows, then add the ceiling area (length × width).
Divide by the square feet per sheet (a 4 × 8 sheet covers 32 sq ft).
Add a waste factor for cuts; many contractors use about 10–15%.
Add compound, tape, screws and corner bead.
Price hanging and finishing labor separately, by your finish level.
Apply your overhead and profit.
Example (illustrative): a 12 × 14 ft room with 8 ft walls, one door and one window, walls and ceiling.
Step
Math
Result
Wall area
52 ft perimeter × 8
416 sq ft
Minus openings
416 − 21 (door) − 15 (window)
380 sq ft
Ceiling area
12 × 14
168 sq ft
Total area
380 + 168
548 sq ft
Plus 10% waste
548 × 1.10
602.8 sq ft
4 × 8 sheets
602.8 ÷ 32 = 18.8, round up
19 sheets
Pricing tip: Price hanging and finishing separately, so a higher finish level shows up in the price. And remember that markup and margin aren't the same number: a 20% margin needs a 25% markup. The Estimating Basics guide walks through the math, and the free markup and margin calculator does it for you.

The drywall calculator: a 12 × 14 ft bedroom with one door and one window deducted comes to 19 sheets with 10% waste. Sample numbers.
Questions drywall contractors ask
How many sheets of drywall do I need for a room?
Take the wall area (perimeter times height), subtract doors and windows, and add the ceiling area. Add a waste factor (many contractors use about 10–15%, depending on how cut-up the room is), divide by 32 for 4 × 8 sheets, and round up.
Can I measure drywall from blueprints?
Yes. Upload the blueprint PDF, set the scale, and measure walls and ceilings on the drawing, then use those quantities in your estimate.
Can I hire another sub for finishing through the app?
Yes. You can send a request for quotes to other subs. They send their bids back through a simple form with no login, and the bids land in your project ready to compare.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and you don’t need a credit card to start. Plans start at $75 a month, and you can cancel anytime.
